Homes for sale in Oxford AL
Why Oxford?
The state of Alabama is known for its undeniably charming places and sweet southern hospitality. One of its cities that people could decisively call home is Oxford. It is situated in the midst of Birmingham and Atlanta. It is known for its historic beauty, great landscapes and warm people. The country living and city living are perfectly mingled. Anyone can live here for many good reasons.
Looking back to Oxford’s early years, it was known to be a trading town and sales hub of cotton. It was a blossoming town destroyed by federal troops during the civil war. Despite that unsettling part of history, Oxford’s people were determined to rebuild the city. Many of the surviving structures which are reminiscent of the post-war Victorian era have set the city into a place of nostalgic charm.
It is in Oxford where you can find Alabama’s oldest covered bridge. This was built in 1850 and according to the old folks, a freed slave had built the bridge. It was named Coldwater Covered Bridge and it had become a noted landmark in the city. There is nothing grand about it. It is made of wood but it will leave you wondering about the peculiarity of its old engineering idea. Such simple structure is telling much about the history and heritage of the South.
Oxford is also home to one of the most beautiful city parks in the region - the Oxford Lake Park. It also has its own share of historical details. The park used to be the main ground for the farmers’ wagons in carrying loads of cotton into town. It was transformed into a vibrant recreational park. For decades, it has been a center of gatherings and activities. The 0.67-mile walking track along with the beautiful lake scenery makes us yearn for a long walk in the park. Every 4th of July, people are drawn here to watch the beautiful fireworks display. It has become a destination for people who want to enjoy the beautiful landscape, playgrounds and ball fields or for others who simply want to relax.
Aside from the city’s beautiful landscapes, the low cost of living, the food, the easy-access to all outdoor activities, what people consider as a good factor to live here is the weather. The cities in the southern state have wide-ranging climate. They experience four seasons but it’s been observed that winters in the south are much more pleasant compared to the northern states. Staying in the warmer side makes it all worthwhile.
When you decide to search for homes for sale in Oxford AL, you will surely not regret it. People will be kind. Some people who live here are so friendly that you can expect warm smiles and greeting while you are on the streets. That is something special about the people in the south. They are warm and friendly and they are not being forced to do it. It’s just the way they are.
Oxford is a wonderful place. It’s a city where its bliss is not based on circumstances. The struggles in the past did not hinder it to create a better future.
